Riding home on the freeway from my GF's today a feeling comes over me...I look down and my side mount license plate assembly is gone. Broke clean off at the pulley cover bolt. I made the bracket myself so I've got nobody to blame but myself. I'd been checking it periodically since putting it on a month or so ago and each time it seemed solid. I guess the good part is that I hadn't wired the tag light yet as I was going to do that as part of another rear end mod I've got planned. Damn thing would've probably got tangled up in the rear pulley or something worse. Oh well, I "get" to make a better/stronger one now AND go through getting a replacement license plate from the DMV... Other than that, it was a great day and the ride was scenic.
I had one of the Road 6 brackets attached to the lower shock bolt and it broke on me.
I was lucky and it must of broke as I pulled in the driveway because when I put the bike on the stand I heard it bang against the bike, hanging on by the LED frame wires.
Made my first one using part of the stock bracket (aluminum and a HUGE mistake) and it broke on me going down the freeway. I unfortunately DID have mine wired and it sucked it up under my fender, and took out my tire.
I didn't lose the plate though, it was jammed up under the fender and in great shape still.
The next mount I made from 3/16" high tensional strength structural steel that I used for part of my last winch plate. It is NOT breaking now. Live and learn man, mine cost me quite a bit more than just a replacement plate!
