Default Throttle sticking issues?

Had a nasty accident a couple of weeks ago. I was riding my 1200 Suzuki Bandit (my Dyna is being custom painted ). We were travelling about 45mph when my clubmate took me out with his 2007 street bob. It transpires that as we were accelerating his throttle jammed open!! Even after i went down i could hear his bike screaming as he pulled his clutch in!!The bike was regularly serviced and before i go bitching to the dealer i thought i would see if anyone else had suffered this problem? Cheers guys.

Bars is the issue... They probably messed something up in the grip/throttle cable area. I was reading an install sheet on a set of grips and it warned about proper installion as a throttle cable could stick wide open...

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J02842.pdf
LAST PAGE OF THIS PDF, IT WARNS IF THE GRIP DOES NOT SNAP BACK IT COULD LEAD TO THROTTLE STICKAGE... SO MAYBE THE THROTTLE CABLES WERE NOT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY AFTER THE NEW BARS WERE INSTALLED.

BUT IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS...

I agree, they're probably hanging up in the housing. Something pretty important to check, and keep lubricated.

I definitely can relate to that ****. About two years ago i got done washing my bike and ran down to get gas, about 3 miles down the road and on my way back just on the last turn before my house the throttle sticks and ive got to try and make a turn you'd usually take at 25 at about 55, i lean in tight but i get the ape hanger wabbles and i slingshot of the road and click into dirt bike mode, blast between a telephone pole and a fence, through an overgrown oak tree hanging just behind the pole and fence, then fish tail it though the dirt so i turn to get back on pavement so i can stop but i hit the pavement at its thickest point which sends my back tire straight up and my straight up in the air, so i was doing an Endo and a Superman, came down on my feet next to the bike still holding on skiing on the soles of my shoes and then just pulled the bike off to the side and rolled away while the bike flipped. when the dust settled i was standing next to the bike redlining with a few surface abrasions. the guy i passed on the road a little ealier stopped to help out and all he had to say was "Well, it sounded real good!" and all i could think of is "I JUST WASHED IT!!!" so while doing the rebuild i went through everything and couldnt really come up with a for sure reasoning, it could have been throttle cable adjustment, there was a minor bend in the cable like it had gotten pinched and bent at some point so it wasn't traveling smoothly in the housing, and they seemed a little dry so not enough lubrication as well. its all good though because as long as you survive and and the bike is the only one hurt you move one and fix her up again. glad you're alright!!!

Hey man so sorry hear about the crash. I've been f-ing with my controls for a few days now and I know of two things that can cause that issue. (may be others)

1. The little shoe fell out of the throttle friction control at the dealer, and your buddy knocked the star spinner enough to make it "bite" into the twister and lock it in place.

2. Cable crimping issues, or bad cable tension adjustments.

I know it's too late, but here's a good vid on adjusting cables. The guy says like four times that the throttle must "snap back" in all bar positions.

Another possibility is when they put the controls on they slid the grip all the way up against the bars. The throttle side grip should be back off the bars a little bit to stop it from rubbing against the bars which can cause it to not return freely.

The tech is a former Toyota tech that failed drivability issues!
