Default Another vid......

......this one's is as boring as hell though. BUT - if you've got a fast / powerful computer watch the vid on 1080 HD. My lad Ben bought a new action vid helmet cam for our forthcoming bike trip in Canada and went for the Contour Hi Def jobbie. We shot out on the bikes on Sat to try it out and the quality is stunning - but I can't play it in 1080 on my old 'puter, the best it can mange is 480p but even at that resolution the qualty is very good. Ben's computer manages it ok but even that needs an upgrade to get the best out of it.

Uploading to You Tube took literally hours - I left the computer running last night and went to bed, it was done this morning but not sure how long it took. It was showing over 7 hours remaining when I left it - and that was for an 8 minute vid! We have no editing software capable of handling it yet but it'll all come in time. Anyway have a look at the vid in as high res as you can without the picture jumping, like I say it's truly boring and I apologise for that - I promise we'll shoot some good stuff and post it up.

P.S - it will give anyone contemplating riding / driving over here in England an idea of what to expect though

Watched the vid in 1080 at YouTube...great quality!

Some remarks for improvement:

IMO it's better to mount the camera on a fixed point on the bike. Now it's on the helmet, the screen image is a bit turbulent caused by the riders head movements;

The fish-eye effect of the lens causes objects like lamp-posts to bend inwards; can the camera's focus be adjusted?

The wind on the mic causes a loud hiss; maybe you should try to cover it with a piece of foam or if possible use an external mic and mount it behind the rider

Mount the camera at the back of the bike and shoot some backward images: it's great to see the 2nd rider following. Last year these were shot from the back of a van.

Have fun using the camera; the more you experiment, the better it will be!

I think I'd get too conused riding in England. Just wondering, are the controls reversed on bikes in England? Probably not but not sure since they are on cars.

Can't watch for long unless I turn the sound off - and the wrong side of the road is just plain weird but that is the best quality vid I have ever seen. Can't wait to see more.

Noooo DM, only the steering wheel is on the other side on UK cars. The brake, clutch and acclelerator are all all in the same order! Shift and handbrake are still in the middle, the only thing different is we drive on the opposite side of the road, but you quickly adapt to driving on the side you're not used to - we have to do it everytime we go over to the European mainland, as they do when they visit here. No big deal, really

And yes the bike controls are all the same as yours, unless you happen to be riding a very old Brit bike then the gear shift / rear brake were on opposite sides.

FXD2003Rider - Erm....... it's called a helmet cam Dude, we bought it to mount on a helmet. We're taking 2 other vid cameras with us to shoot from different angles / positions on the bikes. I did say it was a boring vid as we were only trying the camera out so we're well aware of the shortcomings thanks! We need to shut the sound down, that will be recorded from the other cams. The helmet cam is too exposed to wind noise to be useful. We need a lens hood sorting to prevent the sun flare and we need a UV filter to protect the lens. Biggest problem at the mo is getting the software for the video editing to work on our computers, there may be some serious upgrades needed
