Default how much $ for cams only?

not even the summer yet and i'm already looking forward to my mods for next winter.

with my cosmetics 99% done i'll either be upgrading my suspension, my motor, or finishing the looks of the bike with a 21/18 setup and a smooth full lenght rear fender.

how much dinero would i be going in for by doing a good set of cams in my stock motor? something along the lines of the andrews 54h...

not really looking for this cam is better, don't waste your money on just cams, etc.

we're in the spitballing stages of everything right now, it's riding time, i'm just looking ahead...

thanks.

J&P has the 54 at about 330... not sure what year your bike is, or if you're after chain or gear. Gasket kit around 32.

The 54 also appears like you may have to get different springs because of the .550 lift.

I think stock springs will go to .585 lift. By getting adjustable pushrods you can cut out tank removal and lots of labor. Be sure to inspect oil pump and measure crank pinion run out while you are in there........

Lots of variables there.

Are you doing the work yourself or paying a shop to do it?
Year of the bike for cam tensioners?
You will want to upgrade to the Timken bearing.
Do you have fuel management or is that something you are going to have to buy?
Dyno tune or go the TTS route and tune it yourself?

What he said.

I just had a local indy install andrews on my 09.

I did get the adjustable pushrods and went with the PCV fuel management and Dyno'd. whole thing with labor was about $1200

Gas tank does not need to come off at all, just lift the rear and place a block of wood underneath.

No adj. pushrods needed.

Labor to pull the rocker boxes to lift out solid pushrods was an extra 15 minutes.

I ran Andrews 54H with only XIED's and it ran great, and cooled the engine down bigtime.

i do a lot of tinkering on my bike, but haven't dug into the motor at all yet. that being said i'd like to do the cam install myself. my dad's been riding and fixing harleys for 40 years so i'm not totally flying by the seat of my pants.

it's a 2008 street bob.

i'm running the PCV and if i decide to go with cams i'll more than likely pick up the autotune module that i shouldn't have skimped on in the beginning. either that or i'll get the bike back on the dyno.

The Andrews info I have says you need HI-LIFT springs for the 54H with .550" lift. The 50H has .510" lift and can use stock spings.
Your'e going to loose a lot of dynamic compression with that much change in duration unless you raise your static compression ratio. That will kill your off the line power. I've been thinking about the 26H which is the biggest recomended for stock compression although if the Harley engine reacts anything like a V8 the 31H would probably work.
Just my.02. I like the torqe off the line and with out a lot of other changes to the compression ratio and gearing a big cam which is also a high rpm cam can be a big disappiontment.
