Wyde Glyde, the new RK fender is 8.5 wide. I had the front of the Bob rear fender grafted to the RK. The RK fender idea came from man4mopar. Check some of his threads. And I have some pics in my album.
imadunatic, I don't know about Jackyl, but it would be great to have solid mounts for passenger pegs/boards. I don't know why Harley would swingarm mount them. Not one of their better ideas.
I'll try to take pictures today after work to show how I got the RK bags on the FL mounts.
Here's some pics of early Shovelhead brackets and how I am temporarily mounting the RK bags.
I would like to remove most of the inside plastic and make it flat sided. That would simplify the mounting and make the bags roomier.
Anyone know the best glue to use for that project?
Very nice love those hard bags on a dyna :-). Marking this so I can find it easy when I get home on the desktop . I'd am very interested in your hitch and would like to see some close up pictures of it.

I know this subject has been beat to death, but I've been researching adding touring bags to a Dyna and the concensus seems to be that it can't be done without modification to the bags. So I built a set of templates off my neighbors Road King and decided that it would be fairly asthetically pleasing without cutting a hole for the shock (I also have a hitch on my Dyna, bags almost follow it exactly).
Fast forward to today, I now have a set of bags off a 2003 Road King Police (seems fitting that I ride a FXDP), a set of brackets off a 2009 Road King (serious ebay score), and a plan to cut, weld, machine, fab (I'm a toolmaker by trade)-whatever is needed- to anchor the front of the brackets to the passenger foot peg area (this is a 2001 FXDP, pegs are attached to frame, not swingarm).
Before I start this excellent adventure, I wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed someone else's post on actually doing this and maybe mooching some of the intricacies off of them. If not, I'll figure it out, take as many pics as I can and maybe help someone else out.
Any thoughts besides "you're the millionith guy to think you can do it, good luck"?
Kevin
i would love to hear more details about how and where did you buy these bags..want to do the same to my dyna
U-234, was the RK rear fender wide enough to fill up the space between your fender struts? My struts are like 8.5 inches wide (almost 9" on the rear most mount point) and I can't find a touring fender wide enough. You probably had to hack yours up and add some metal?

The late model Street Glide fender is also 8.5". I have one and this winter plan to mate it to to lead edge of my FXDF fender (the Street Glide ends at the battery box) so same deal.
There is also a frame mount point just above the rear foot pegs that can be used as well as doing what Cyclevisions has done making up a plate that bolts under the seat to provide a mounting point in front of the shock. They also make a cross support for the rear to keep the bags from bowing in when full.

Pirate, I'll get some pics of it when I disassemble for powdercoat. Hoping to get to it this coming weekend.

Two things to be aware of, you want a rear cross support (easy for you, just mount to the hitch frame) and you want be sure the axle on the left side does not come in contact with the underside of bags at full compression (ask me how I learned that one!).

Careful, the cutout also doubles as clearence for the Dyna axle on the left side at full compression. I learned this with my present Cavalry bags.
