battery trim removal

Default battery trim removal
I did a search but nothing came up. Has any removed their battery trim, more directly, the pinch bolt on the back of the battery cover that holds the battery trim so you can replace the battery trim. The pinch bolts have me baffled. My service manual simply says remove with pliers or suitable tool, too vague. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just squeeze them with pliers and they will slip thru the cover

You pinch them closed with the pliers (on the inside) and pop it off ... changed mine to chrome the day I bought the bike.
