Default Help mounting side license plate

I bought the road6customs vertical plate and need some advice, as my last plate (custom mounted 2010 WG to belt guard) fell off on the highway. I don't think it'll fit the lower shock bolt without hitting the rear shock. The belt guard bolt doesn't seem like a strong mounting point (the plate mount has some weight to it). So I'm thinking I need to mount it to the axle. I've never messed with that nut before. I'm guessing I need a 36mm socket to remove the nut, and some circlip pliers to remove that ring at the end? The clip kinda seems like a pain to get off/put on. .I have some circlip pliers but they don't seem adequate.

Should I remove the nut while on the kickstand, remove the washer, and replace the washer with the plate mount hugging up against the swingarm? Are there any other procedures/issues I should be aware of?

Thanks for your help,
matt

Yes, you can remove the nut while on the jiffy stand. It sounds like you need a better pair of retaining ring pliers. I bought a set of Craftsman at Sears that were reasonably priced. Came with several sizes of tips depending on retaining ring size. Otherwise, there isn't much to removing the nut. Make sure to torque it and use thread lock.

yeah, just loosen nut, replace washer with the plate mount, and reinstall. Torque correctly. Gotta hold the mount in position while tightening nut down. Plenty fine to do this on jiffy stand, I did.
