I really like the look of the side mounted license plate and I came across a cheap LED frame on eBay. Now I just have to fab up the actual plate holder and mount and get it chromed. Looking at my bike with the additions I already have on the rear end, I've got two options:
I think #1 is a better option as far as how I could position it on the bike, but I'm not sure if mounting a plate bracket off the same bolt as the suspension is a good idea. #2 will probably work but I get the feeling that the plate might rattle and I'd really rather have the plate mounted lower to the ground. I guess I need a few of you out there with side mounted plates mounted at #1 position to post a pic and tell me it's safe and will work. Also need a few suggestions on where to splice in the wire...I was thinking I'd run it between the swingarm and lower belt guard up to parts yet unknown. Help me make this mod easier! Thanks!
I just made a plate mount last week after being inspired by all of the talk about them here lately. I used mounting point two in your pictures. I designed the mount so that the plate is centered in the pulley and angled to the same line as the shock. It is tucked in to the swing arm as much as can be but, I thought about vibration like you did so I used a rubber bumper on the lower end of the bracket were it is even with the swing arm and all the weight that is not supported by the bolt is tight against the swing arm with the bumpper in between to isolate the vibes. So far so good. I've been trying to post a few pictures to get some input from you all but it tells me "file to large" and I don'tknow how to fix it. I think my way would work well for you but, you would have to remove/modify your axel nut cover. I'll try the pics again later.
I put mine on the axle.....I was able to still use the axle cover.....(most).....all of the axle mounted plates available say they wont fit the bob.......they will you just might have to drill the hole bigger for the axle........lolife................................ ..
Got the pictures to work I think. Need to clean up the wiring a bit. Spent an hour routing from the electrical caddy out thru lower belt guard and by the time I got to the plate, I just kind of slapped it together. Prety clean up to that point though.
