Here it goes... I want to remove the HD factory side mount license plate and replace it with a vertical mount plate. So far, the Road6Customs bracket is what i got in mind. I have plenty of options as far as mounting goes: to the axle, to the lower shock bolt, to the belt guard, etc.
The biggest problem is running the wiring for the light (cause i gotta have one). I'm not a big fan of running the wiring down the swing arm. I'd like to hide it if possible. I've searched the forums and found old post with links that don't work. So, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for vertical mount license plates on newer FXDWG.
One option I considered, mount the Road6 bracket on the swing arm somewhere and add an LED light to the original wiring under the fender to shine down on the license plate. Any ideas?
i remember reading you can just flip the plate vertical using the stock bracket... it was on a 2010 wideglide... sorry i don't have a link but it can be done, i saw the pictures...
I cut a scrape piece of diamond plate and painted it satin black. Then mounted it to the original mount vertically. It moved the plate in about 3 inches.

It works great , just remove your plate , take apart your exsisting bracket , rotate it and make your adjustments , and bolt it back together ! Takes 10 min tops !
Yep, Nightster owners have been doing this for a while. Check some of the Sportster forums and you'll see plenty of examples.
Also, stay away from the Road6Customs plates. I have a couple of friends on other forums that got those and the quality of them sucked. The brakets broke and they lost their license plates while out riding with no warning. Either rotate your existing plate, make your own side mount, or find a better quality mount than the road6customs.
I have seen a few people mount the plate behind the primary. From what I saw they used a bolt on the back of the primary cover and just put a L bracket then attatched
