Default cheap laydown license plate!

for all of you who want to lay down your plate, but don't want to spend much money.

how about 15bucks?! take the 2 piecemounting bracketapart and remove the backsupport. buy a cheap black plate frame from WallyWorld or autozone. I paid $15 at Wal Mart. install the plate back on the upright mountwith the frame.

now here isthe custom part... bend the bracket back towardsthe fender until it is asclose to it as you want. that is it! end of story!

I have had mine this way for over a year on my 06' Superglide and have not had one issue with it. lots of forums on here about the subject so I figured that I would share.

For the same $15 you can get a chrome lay down bracket from
Jireh cycles. Part # 11-96, $15.95.

Here is what you do... take the stock license backing and mount it to a piece of scrap metal cut to 4x7. Bend the backing so that you can mount it to the swingarm where the beltgaurd goes. Free side mount! It looks way better than stock, but not as nice as a chromed out fancy bracket. Oh well, I'm poor. Here is a pic of my free side mount.

I prefer the basic black look. I have also noticed that all of the lay down brackets don't get close enough to the fender for me.

Stell55chevy, I agree with you on the laydown plates. Most should be called "tilt-back", not lay down. Thats why I made a side mount.

Doesn't your state require a light be shining on the license plate?

I like the side mounted plate, but I don't want to deal with all the holes in the fender. very cool idea though.
