My bike came with a big sucker style air cleaner and a Slip on exhaust with no baffles so it was running drag pipes I DO NOT Know if there is a stage one map downloaded to the bike and with my installing my new Rinhart 2 into 1 I want to make sure I am doing everything right now the question is . Do I go to the Dealer and hopefully have them tell me I have a stage 1 map downloaded and pay $60 in not have them install a map which will run around $230.00
A) I wouldn't ride that bike without baffles. With FI, can do some damage over time.
B) I think you can call the Moco with the VIN and they can tell you if it has the stage 1 download. Maybe the dealer can hook up to it and tell you the same thing.
If you plan on doing other mods, I'd buy an aftermarklet tuner (power commander, etc). Reason being is that each mod you do to the engine will require a new download from Moco @ $150/ea time. Two mods equals the price of a decent aftermarket tuner. Following my math??

Yes, the dealer can hook the bike up to the H-D computer system and tell you if the ECM has the stage 1 download installed.
Is this the 2006, does it have the O2 sensors? If so, check out the TTS tuning kit. If you plan to make a mod now and again, it will shortly pay for itself. You won't get a better tune with any other system short of a very competent tuner (they usually prefer the TTS). But it may not be for you. The tool can read the map as well as any sensors or error codes, but it doesn't matter as TTS will replace what's in the ECU with a better MAP.
When I bought my first bike, I added the AC and did the MoCo download. A little while later, I was looking to improve performance and cool the bike. I decided to add the ECM. The 200.00 I paid for the download was money I should have invested into an aftermarket ECM the first time.
There are different ECMs. Search for TTS and PCV for plenty of opinions on them.
Okay guys, I took the bike to the dealer today and they said they would plug the bike in for free to see if it was running a stage 1 or stock map ... with my luck ... it was a stock map
they said they could intale the stage one for $160 and that would make the bike run better with my intake and exhaust and fix my problem of the bike running to hot. I did the download for peace of mind ... and the tech said its good to have just incase when I am running my piggy back"tuner" if it goes out I will have something to fall back onto.
Driving home from the dealer it was like the bike woke up ! runs a lot better !
