Default Rear Wheel Alignment - Sidewinder

I have an 06 Wide Glide with 9800 miles. I have been going through the 10,000 sevice, which seems pretty simple. While checking things at the rear I checked my rear wheel alignment (measure from the axle to the little hole in the swing arm about 2 inches forward). To my astonishment it is out of aligment even though it has never moved since coming from the factory. In short, when you get your new bikes check this. There's no reason to go down the road like a sidewinder. By the way, I ride moderately, but my tires are shot. I bet the aligment is partly the reason for the loss of tread.
