Default 2010 Fat bob

Hello all, Picked up my first harley a few weeks ago. 2010 fat bob. It's all stock, only thing i wish is that the exhaust was louder. Maybe later. I don't want to void the warranty and have yet to hear in person the rush slip ons.

Here's a few pics. Shortly after i picked up my wife a 2000 sportster (pictured there with my bike)

Just rolled 350 miles. As for warranty work later down the road. If i change my oil myself for the 1000 service, is there anyway they can give me crap about them not doing the work and trying to get out of work down the road???

Congrats on the new bike.

A lot of people will tell you to let the dealer do at least the first service.
The first one is sort of like a final check to make sure everything is right with the bike.
With that said, everyone knows the horror stories of some of the dealers and their so called "expert" service people.
But get to know them, and see if you can get a feel for what type of work they do, and how they treat you.
Not all dealers are "stealers", even if their prices are higher than most would like to pay.

Now with all that said, to answer your question.
NO, they can't VOID your warranty if you do your own service.
They might give you crap, but they will have to "prove" your work (or lack of service) caused the warranty issue.

There is a more to a 1k, 5k, 10k service than just changing the fluids though.
So, if you want to perform the service yourself get the service manual and create some sort of check-off list.
Keep all your receipts for parts/materials and your work logs, and you shouldn't have any problems should the need arise for warranty work.

The warranty says the scheduled services have to be performed, not who has to perform them.
So you have to make sure you document what work you did.

Thanks guys! I love riding this bike it's so smooth. Getting more comfy with really getting into the corners now (not use to a cruiser/or such a heavy bike). Just got back from a 50 mile ride. But looks like rain all weekend.

Thanks rollamo. I know the first service is oil change and looking over the entire bike. Dealer said the 5000 mile service would be what he recommends paying for if i want to do the first service myself and save some money.

I think i will do my own first service, log it all and I'll keep receipts. Then pay for the second.

Thanks
Nathan

I wouldn't worry about your warranty. Just keep your receipts. I would definitely invest in a factory service manual. You have everything you need in there for the 5k. My service department sucked *** and when I got my greasy bike back after a $300 bill they never touched it again. Yes it was filthy!! Needless to say they are now closed!!

Congrats and welcome!!

I have the 09 fatbob. Added the Rush slip-ons w/2 inch baffle Tuesday and I have to say.... Oh My Freakin Gosh!!! I love the sound. Very respectable for mufflers!

I put the Big Sucker breather on myself today and then took it down and had the stage one done. what a difference in my bike now. It's almost like riding another bike. I am very pleased!

09 Fatbob
Rush 2.0 Slip-ons
Big Sucker A/C
Stage one

Bags, Quick Release windshield, Sundowner seat (For The Wife), Quick Release backrest, and swithblade pegs.

What to do next hmmmmm!

Sounds like you have a great dealer being honest like that!
If you get along with them just the receipts for oil changes should be enough for them to negociate on your behalf with the moco when or if needed.
They won't be like " well how do we know if you adjusted your clutch if you didn't log the increments of cable play?" HaHAha not by the sound of 'em anyway. I was glad to have my local H-Dealers because I had several warranty issues, but they made it all good!
Enjoy that new baby, she's a real gem!!!

I bought the same bike a few months ago. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm digging mine.

The stock exhaust isn't horrible, but it leaves a lot of room for improvement. I decided I couldn't wait any longer and my new pipes and air cleaner should arrive next week (thanks Jamie @ Fuel Moto!). I'm stoked to get some bark to go with the bite.

Have fun!

If you want to change your pipes, change them. It's not going to void your warranty. As stated previously, your first mod should be purchasing a service manual. If you have more money than time, it's fine to let the dealer do all of your maintenance but you'll be charged out the nose. That's cash that can go towards. I spent 60 bucks on the manual, purchased oil and filter (that I paid to much for from the dealer) and I did the 1000 mile service myself and had the satisfaction of knowing everything was actually done.

Congrats on the purchase! Great looking bike, vivid black is much faster than those other colors.

Like everyone else say's get the manual and have the knowledge that everthing is actualy done.My dealer told me that I should save all reciepts for everthing that I do oil, filter, and anything else that is done just in case. But I think that if one service is so important than the dealer should perform this check on the house!Just in case something did happen than they could'nt be held liable for the damages to your bike or yourself.

And in case your wondering denim black is the fastest!!!
