I would think that even a heavily oiled foam air filter couldn't compare to the filtration capability that a new paper filament offers K&N or not...jmo..
I had one on my FB for a while. It had been on my 93 XL 1200 which had an S&S carb.
I liked it cause it was 5.5" in diameter.
I had to make a bracket to support the AC backing plate & throttle body, then route crankcase breather tubes.
The only 'draw-back' would be the breather system. I'd suggest shoping for a support bracket that has an internal breather.
On my 'rig' I "T"ed the tubes together & passed them through a hole drilled in the AC backing plat. This worked ok for a while until hot oil dripped onto the foam.

My first impression is like yours above. If the foam is constructed correctly it will filter everything your motor needs removed. I have ridden dirt bikes for years and have always been amazed by the foam filters they use, caked smooth with dirt on the outside and clean spotless foam on the inside.

I used foam filters for years on race bikes and they worked great. also you can clean them up like new. They use them all the time off road both on cars ,trucks and motor cycles with good results.
Hey that's pretty sweet! I'm trying to mix the comfort of the new (hence my 09) with the looks of the old (hence the RKC). Anyone know where I can get one for it?
