Sure. My torque wrench is in the same tool box as my rachet. I've already got the socket (to loosen the bolts) so what's the big deal? What's overkill about doing the job correctly?

Is it likely I can't tighten the riser clamps sufficiently without a torque wrench? Not really. But if I start taking short cuts on simple things, what's next? Hell, why break out the pressure gauge when filling the tires - just pump 'em up by sight. No need to keep track of how much oil you put in on the next change - long as it isn't empty or overflowing, you're good, right?

There are two contact patches smaller than a pack of cigarettes between you and the pavement. Plus whatever safety gear you choose to wear. I prefer to try to tilt the odds in my favor by ensuring that everything about my bike is right before I go out there and dodge the cagers hellbent on squashing me.

Your bike, your life, your choice. For me, I feel better knowing I heard that 'click' that says the riser clamp bolts are properly tightened and if some jerk cuts me off and I have to slam down on both brakes the inertia throwing me forward isn't likely to twist the bars and cause me to lose control.

But that's me. I don't expect others to agree.

I have no qualms with the torque wrench, but to be honest...I don't own one.

So, I have a quick question: Are they supposed to tell you how much pressure you use to tighten something down? If so, how tight do you tighten?

I know...I'm still pretty ignorant in many mechanical issues. But, I'm learning.

torque specs are in your service manual.

to be honest if i weren't too lazy to dig out my service manual every time i tightened something down my torque wrench would see more use.

as it stands, i yanked on the riser clamp bolts until i thought i was gonna crap or pop a blood vessel. haven't moved on me so far.

Thanks! I'm still waiting on my dealer to get the manuals in. Sigh...

I think it's just the lines if the Carlinis? In pictures, they do seem shorter...

Or, it could also be the photo angle?

Regardless, you have some of the best looking apes on this forum IMO...so be proud of 'em!
