On my bucket list was the goal to have one each of the various families of HD air cooled lines.
I started in Aug. 06 with a new 07 FXSTC, then an 08 Buell Ulysses, 09 Sportster XR1200 and a 2010 Ultra Classic.
My plan was to get a 2011 Street Bob. But after going to Reiman's HD in Kewanee, Il. Saturday, I saw a 2010 Super Glide on the floor. The salesman came up and said we can make a great deal on the FXD. they wanted $12,415 out the door which is even less that the Sportster XR1200.
That is about $1,500 under the usual MSRP+shipping+set up+lic+title+Doc and whatever.
They also threw in the 1K service, a service manual, two t-shirts, a baseball cap, a regular key ring, a leather key ring with a pewter medalion with the HD Shield, a ball point pen, a guardian bell, a fancy shadow box with five pewter models of various HD models of the year that they were introduced and a chrome license plate frame. Also 20% off on accessories.
Well they suckered me in. Since it was raining today they filled it up with gas, put it into their enclosed trailer and delivered it to my house.
So I made my goal a year early.
Here it is in the garage after I installed the battery maintainer lead and gave the bike its first taste of Lemon Pledge
Those are some excellent choices. You've got the softail to cruise down the boulevard and impress the ladies. As an antidote for that, the Buell makes up in handling and power what it lacks in style. The XR gives you both power and style, so you can have your cake, and eat it too. The Ultra is for the ultimate in comfort on long trips...or just for when you want to spoil yourself, ease back on your cush saddle and enjoy the creature comforts.
I think you'll find the superglide to be a great addition to the stable. It's an incredible sport-tourer with a lot of style and a raw edge. I'm very happy with mine and don't even regret trading in my sportster, as much as I loved it.
Awesome. Sounds like you got a good deal and delivered to the house to boot! I'd just like to own two bikes, but the wife's not having any of that right now. We'll see how she feels in a year or two.
Hell yeah man! Sounds like you got it made! I'm working on getting a second bike right now, deal in the works, its an 1983 fxr though, but i wanted something vintage! Congrats man! And where are the damn pics already???
Pictures when this _*^$^&&* rain stops. Basement flooding. Next town over had 6.5" of rain with many stores flooded. Cars at the Ford Dealer under water.
Rain predicted for the nest three days. It will be a week before I can even try it out. I've been using the time to do a process called heat cycling. The motor is idled for a certain amount of minutes and until a certain temperature is reached. the process goes on for about 14 cycles. Each cycle is a little longer and a little hotter.
This does not break the motor in. It prepares it for an aggressive beak in rides. I have done this for years and it results it a little stronger running motor. At least in my head I think that. My butt dino thinks so to. I don't have any real numbers. AIM did a great article on heat cycling a couple of years ago and they strongly suggested doing it.
