I just rode 28 from El Paso, TX to Las Cruces, NM. Nice ride. Had lunch at BWs. Got some sun and some miles on the Dyna. Good day. Anybody else have a nice ride today?
Yep...nuthin' scenic though. Went south on US 59 freeway dodging traffic and 15-20 mph winds to visit my mom in the hospital just south of Sugar Land.
It sure felt good to be on the Street Bob instead of caging it to see her cuz ANY ride is always a good ride for me.
I took the long way heading back home...
I live in Cruces and work in Southern Dona Ana County. I ride my bike to work a lot and look for any excuse to ride 28. Great ride.
For those who don't know it: you follow the Rio Grande- and you get farmland, old Mexican towns, plenty of curves, desert Mesas in the distance beyond the irrigated area, 9,000 foot sheer rock mountains to the east; and you drive through huge pecan orchards that are like big forests, but planted in perfect rows. Their limbs dangle over the road.
I did my good ride after dark. Road up to the top of the aforementioned 9,000 foot mountains (the Organs), coasted down in neutral at 40-50 mph. I could just hear the wind and see the city lights. It was cool.
The Southwest is a unique place to ride. As are all the diverse landscapes in this country.
