Couldn't do any v tunes cause it started to rain, didn't want get the laptop wet.
I think that is about the only advantage of the SEPST, you set it in record mode and disconnect the PC, leaving the little box behind to record the data.
Having read a lot about the TTS and SEPST they seem to do pretty much the same things. There is an auto-tune feature that takes the collected data and tunes the VE tables for you, plus the ability to edit all the dozens of other tables. However the TTS seems to have the nicer interface to these features.

does the SEPST allow you to read a map, ie pull it back out of the bike and actually read it? The predecessor did not, ie the SERT
Yes. I pulled the dealer map off and saved it before starting my tune process.
He is asking if you can actually read the values in the tables, which is more than simply archiving. Nothing I know of will read the map you archive off the bike regardless of who programmed it, encryption protections and all.
BTW, the SEST module does record data but is limited to about the last 10-15 minutes, better than nothing but hardly enough to do serious work..

What I could pull off the bike was the stage-1 map that the dealer installed along with the pipes and A/C they threw into the deal when I bought it. This isn't the base map installed with the bike from the factory. The stage-1 map I pulled off I amended and reinstalled.
Finally got the TTS and cables, pulled off the fuelpak and xieds today, downloaded a base map to the ecm and went for a ride. What a freakin difference! Feels like a different bike. Extremely smooth acceleration,no surging, popping and it seems cooler although its not that hot today. Couldn't do any v tunes cause it started to rain, didn't want get the laptop wet.Cant wait to see how it runs after a few v tunes. Love this tuner!
So you have to ride around with a laptop to use the v tune feature? How does that work, just carry it in a backpack? Just wondering because I'm pretty sure the laptop I use at work shuts down when you fold it closed.

Let me tell you, anything is better than the FuelPak. I learned that from my personal experience. People say....oh it's not so bad...those same people don't know the feel of a dyno tuned bike. Good on you for getting rid of that hunk of worthless plastic.
