What's the baby powder trick? My SG was knocked over 5 years ago. I did develop a chronic leak I had to keep an eye onver the years. It would trail down to the lowest point of the bike, the drain plug. I was certain it was some where from the inner primary.

Got the bike back from the shop with a new sator rotor yesterday. I had mentioned the old leak to the extremly busy indy. But no seals were replaced other than the three on the outer cover. Since I got off cheap I didn't complain as I am having the primary, tranny and case blacked out over this next winter.

The model years run from September to August. So you could buy 06 Dynas in September of 05. But for these discussions, it's an 06 model.

I would say block your bike up to get it sitting level and remove the derby cover,I suspect you will find a bit of oil between the D-cover edge and the gasket. Wipe that up and your good to go,unless that is not the source and I'm just blowing smoke .

Does anyone have the part number for the primary gaskets handy, some of us posting to this thread probably need it at one point. My 05 SG recently developed a slight leak as well, right by the drain plug but not from the drain-plug. My leak started shortly after I installed fwd controls [I left the orig. shifter shaft in place]..... I might as well bite the bullet and get it done this weekend. Thanks in advance.

+1 It doesn't take much oil in the groove to make you think you have a leak. I'm real careful to get the cover and the primary face spotless. First time I changed primary fluid I wasn't as careful, and it left a spot on the floor every day, for several days.

Ive got an 06 classic have had a drop of oil coming from primary drain plug for a year now. On my second set of seals in a year just put new shifter shaft seal as well as jack shaft seal and all other primary gaskets last weekend. Low and behold 3 rides later the drip is back! Any suggestions would be appreciated

When you replace a seal because it leaks, you have to pay attention to the surfaces and components the seal, seals... Likely you have a shaft with excessive free play from normal wear. The seal might be new, but it's not engineered seal beyond a specified limit. If you don't "mic" to read the slop. Exceed the tolerance, and the leak reappears. It's not just true for motorcycles. It's true for all machines, they wear.

There is a seal on the back side of the primary where the starter spline enters the primary case. The oil will leak unseen slowly down the back of the case and collect on the drain plug and cause a very slow , super annoying drip which only apperars to come from the plug. Luckily when i discovered mine the bike was still under warranty.

this goes to the OP as well, something to check before going nutz!

You need to look up your specific bike to know the gasket part.#...

The impact could have warped the primary or derby cover.
