I'm installing 12in. z bars on my 07 street bob and i'm using the stock clutch cable but there seems to be a problem i can't figure out. Problem is that i have the adjustment unscrewed all the way out and there is still to much slack and it seems to be binding up.
I took the tranny cover back off and the movement with ball bearing piece inside doesn't seem to be smooth and i can't figure out way. Anybody else ever had this problem? How did you fix it?
well it's possible that your clutch cable is just to long..but doubt it
try adjusting like this, first clutch pack then clutch cable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl92wwLiNwE
Not sure why you need to adjust the clutch if all you did was change bars and not the cable.
Do you have a 2 piece clutch cable with the adjuster on the down tube?
Did you replace the clutch cable hand control?
Do you have a service manual... There was some particulars in there about placements of the snap ring opening. Dont know if this would cause your problem or not.
But you slacked the clutch cable, did you take the slack back out? Did you adjust the clutch pack? Maybe since you have the cable slacked, you can adjust that clutch pack and the remove the slack and see what happens.

I do have a service manual and and as far as can tell the snap ring is in the right position.
If i screw the adjustment on the the cable all the the way so there is no threads showing it's way loose. If i unscrew the adjustment all the way out to the end of the threads there is still to much slack.
I am going to adjust the clutch pack next and see what happens.
Hummm... If i remember correct the lock nut is on top of the adjuster nut (on the stock cables), so the lock nut should run toward the grip, then the adjuster nut should run all the way up against it to make the cable slacked... Then you run the adjuster nut back down untill the cable is tightened 1/8 inch from cable furrel to clutch handle housing (mine rattles like crazy at that setting so i go a bit tighter... Till the rattle is gone at least)
