Default Passenger mount on Swingarm

As I was putting my rear wheel back on with the new Metzlers, I must have gotten overly excited and fouled up the bolt for the right side passenger peg. It's a self-tapping bolt and as I tried to get it screwed in I must have cross threaded the mounting hole in the swingarm.

After cussing at myself and the bike sufficiently I thought I'd check if anyone else has done this and found a resolution or if I'm looking at having to get a new swingarm. Thoughts, solutions, ideas???

+1. Worst case I'd consider drilling and using a helicoil or the like. This isn't an overly critical fastener after all.

Now if you're looking for an excuse to put a chrome swing arm on, then by all means - YES! This fatal flaw can only be remedied by replacing the swing arm! Tell your wife you have no choice - could be dangerous to ride this way!

How deep have you gone in? All of the way? If not, if you are careful, it might straighten out on its own.

It's possible that there is sufficient depth to use a slightly longer (1/4 inch longer) bolt as well and still have enough threads to hold it. If that doesn't work, I'd probably tap it to a larger size or coarser thread depending on how much material is left.

Taddeoeg that's exactly why I come to this forum. I was hoping someone would support my ridiculous justification for upgrading parts In fact I'm fairly certain I fouled up a few other things that must be replaced.

Jim425, I tried that a few times and couldn't get it to seat properly. It was just tearing it up more. That might work with a non self-tapping screw though so I'll give that a shot first. Then I'll give tapping a shot, I just haven't done that before.

Thanks!

The right side peg is in the way of dropping the swingarm. Otherwise it would have hit the pipe.

Swede...don't you have a stock exhaust system there? Wouldn't just removing the rear cylinder muffler been easier?
