Default Tool needed to install Sissy Bar Bracket

I want to install the Rigid mount bracket on my 06 Low Rider, is it as simple as taking out the bolts on the piece where the rear turn signals are, or do I need to get under the fender at all?

If so what tool(s) do I need for the job?

There are four bolts that need to come out - 2 on each side. The front ones unscrew from the outside. The rear ones may give you more trouble. They are longer and have to be removed from the inside. They may hit the tire before they come out. You may have to unbolt the shocks to get the whell to drop down far enuff to clear it, or you might get lucky. In any case, just use the applicable size Torx wrench on the front and a box-end (or whatever you have) on the rear. Yes, you need to get inside/under the fender to get at the rear bolts. Have a quick look under there and you'll see what needs to be done. Good luck.

It'll make your job a lot easier if you slot out the rear bolt holes so all you have to do is loosen the rear bolt and drop the side mount into place. Removing the rear tail lite bolt is a PITA. One of those ratcheting combination wrenches will be handy to squeese between the fender and rim to loosen the rear bolts.

Good Luck

Tom

If you need more clearance to get behind the fender, you can also try jacking up the rear with a floor lift to give you more clearance.

Thanks for the help guys...

I highly doubt I have a wrench that is going to get under the fender, what do you recommend I get?

Its not that difficult to get in there with a wrench, the hard part is getting the bolt completely out. If you do what TOMMAY sez, all you will have to do is LOOSEN the rear bolts, not remove them. A box or open end wrench will do it.

As far as jacking it up to lower the tire, I had mine completely off the ground and there was still not enuff clearance. Unbolting the shocks will solve that problem.

Thanks for the help.... Just keep in mind I'm new, so when you say things like unbolt the shocks, I really have never done such a thing, so I don't even know what that entails.

I realize you unbolt them but I don't know how involved it is, etc....

I will attempt it today.

Sorry, I thought you had some idea but just wanted some tips. Unbolting the shocks isn't difficult, but as I said, be aware you will still need some way to jack up the rear end so the tire/wheel can drop down, once you have unbolted them. All this having been said, first TRY to remove the bolts byt merely jacking it up. PERHAPS they will come out for you. Not everyone has had this problem. I did and it drove me nutz. Once again, if you have access to a vice and hack saw, TOMMAY's trick of cutting them out will make the whole thing a helluva lot eaiser.

I just used a wrench like this and had zero problems. it slips right between the tire and the fender.
