As some of you may be aware our city council in the interest of at least looking like they are doing something, have passed a bylaw against motorcycle-in reality HD-exhaust noise levels. As I want to at least avoid the local tax collection agency-This would be the Edmonton City Police, I was wondering what year factory exhaust systems would fit my 04 FXD?
most anything twin cam will fit, thing is if they adopt a law, they have to set a "standard" and then have a db meter to charge you with. I know this because i got a local ticket and when I went to city hall and inquired I found out they wrote me a ticket for a pet nuisance. needless to say, no ticket for me. besides my rinehart is quieter than my factory was, to my ear at least.
This is the answer to the "I want my pipes as loud as possible because it just sounds cool" and the "loud pipes saves lives" crowd. Have at it, I'm flyin under the radar, I don't need the attention.
My D&D fits 95-05 according to them, my old big radius fits 91-05 bikes... so, stock systems should fit the same for these years. I'm sure at least the 99-05 systems will fit. The new SE slipons might be safe noise wise and will at least provide some decent sound and performance to the bike without being loud enough to attract attention. Of course your gonna need the stock headers and hardware to install them. I'm assuming you have an aftermarket full system on the bike now.
Rounder Thanks for the help. As to PaulS I'm running the same pipes as you with full baffles and all 14 disks and they will pass at idle but are3 db over at 2500 rpm and I will not even take the motor to 5000 rpm they want the second test at. So you stay under the radar cause when it hits your door-sucks to be you. If it helps your ego the EPS stock EG's even fail the test.

you can't adjust the amount of discs to make it even quieter? If I had to be forced into running a stock exhaust, I'd get a fatbob exhaust and make mods to the bracket to make it fit my 05. I love that style exhaust system. Of course, I would get one from an 08-09 as the 2010 model has a cat converter in it.
Rounder I e-mailed supertrapp on the very suggestion you made, just gotta wait for a reply. Ya they are the full set out from the heads. As any Canadian could tell you service up here is just a word used in advertising. All the so called dealers of ST pipes and accesories push the full system not the parts because the money(profits and mark up) is not there so the delays on parts is just crazy. Cap was estimated at 6 weeks, had a bud machine me one from scratch in 3 hours. Go Figure.
http://forums.supertrapp.com/ Ask them here. I would pull a few disc to pass then put them back in after. We don't have annual inspections in FL. anymore but my Sideshots were kinda loud and I never got bothered, I got the Supermeg for TQ and I'm happy that I got quiet with it.
Paul Sorry for jumpin on ya. Took it in the wrong context. Agree with ya on the straight pipes and the howlers. Can pull lots of disks but in the truth these are random tests based on if the tax man decides you are loud. I have a decibel monitor in my truck as part of my job. Like I said sorry this just pee's me off as it is directed towards hogs. Ill pull a few disks on your advice and see what I get.
Thanks.
