Hi all, recently got back from a haul to Nashville TN. On the trip, my bike, a 2010 Street Bob, turned over 7000 miles.
Here's the issue, which I've never had before. On the way, I filled up like normal, left the station and turned right to get onto 40 and felt wet all over my right pant leg. I looked down and saw gas streaming out from underneath the gas cap. I thought maybe I hadn't tightened it, so next time I filled up, I was sure to tighten until it did its clicking thing.
However, the next time I was careful in corners, but when I hit the front brake, I noticed gas seeping out from the top of the gas cap.
Has anyone had this problem? Is it just a bad gas cap? Weird, I know. Is it as simple as replacing the cap?
Vented gas caps, if you fill em up to the rim, they do tend to leak on turns. I found that out the hard way myself. Just try and leave a bit of room when filling up. Only had the issue once myself, but I do hate the filler hole on my ride, have showered my tank with fuel on may occasions trying to negotiate that tiny hole on many occasions..

i top it off all the time.. and nada.. no spillage what so ever..
check the seal on that cap. if anything dab some lithium white grease on it. or dab your finger on your oil and moisten the gasket.. chances are its dry rotting, or its out of place not forming a proper seal.
Gas caps are not designed to leak not at all. Seal must be bad. This is really dangerous. What do you think will happen if raw gas leaks down unto your hot exhaust which is on the same side as the gas cap? You should get this fixed immediately. I don't care if others come on this forum and say they have the same problem. This is NOT normal!

thats exactly what I was thinking the first time "oh, s@#%!!! i am on mile 500 of a 650 mile day, my bike is hot as hell and I've got gas spraying all down my right side with my exhaust." Thought i was gonna look like ghost rider for a minute going down 40.
thanks for all the replies though. I'm taking it in tomorrow. i checked for dry rot and see nothing. the bike is only 5 months old, just has a lot of miles on it so far.
Had the same thing happen to me. I brought it back to the dealer and they replaced the cap, no charge. The ratchet part was clicking and not letting the cap tighten. They also replaced the front brake resevoir cover that was leaking, they said both were known issues and I could buy a different cap for both and fix the problem. I opted for the free ones replaced under warranty.
