Depends on your definition of "old school". My 82 FXRS had stock cast wheels. Then again, I see ads on CL for "old school" 2003 Chevys with 24" dubs.
To me (JMO), old school on bikes can mean laced wheels that you don't worry about cleaning so they end up rusty and dirty.
Spend a few hours/days/weeks surfing the net forums and save all the pics of the bikes that ring your bell. Then look at them and figure out what it is that you like. Go with that.
I have the opportunity to pick up some of the 6 spoke FXD wheels for $175 locally.. just need to get rotors, new bearings etc.. then powdercoat black.. I'm slowly trying to get my bike to look old school with a modern twist on it, and I'm not sure if the cast wheels if done in black will give me what I want.. though less maint. and not having to buy tubes and rim strips would be a plus.. any advice or pics????
I had spokes on the rear and got several flats. Had to take the rim off to fix. bought a cast rim, tubeless now, and have plugged a couple flats to get home. I'm a cast from now on out
I don't mind the look of the FXD wheels powdercoated black.. and the hassle of getting my hub and spokes switched, or taken off and put back on sounds like about 4 hours of labor at least at work.. I priced it out, and doing it either way is almost the same price.. So I DON'T KNOW!!! Anyone have pictures? I've seen a few on here I like.. but any more shots would help
