funny how someone should write about cruise control today. Just put throttle locks on both bikes - $15 a piece - and took mine off immediately. Hubby was riding on the parkway today and a deer jumped out in front of him. If the fates weren't smiling on him, that throttle lock could have cost him his life. How does the cruise work for you? I figure I'll only slap that throttle lock back on my bike if going for VERY LONG ride. Hope cruise works for you. I guess I need to be in control at all times - woman thing.
How much was the cruise control? I would love it for my '08 FXDC. I do lots of long rides cause there is nothing close to where I live! (Check out a map of eastern Montana)
Agreed on the throttle lock. I admit now that i've tried it I use it quite a bit. Is it real safe? Not so much.. Will I keep using it on open roads? YUP. Just gotta program yourself to remember to twist it back when you approach a stop which (so far anyway) I have done. A very inexpensive 'cruise control' in my book!!! Use at your own risk though...
I have cruise on my FLHTC and it works just like the cruise in your car. As mentioned above, it maintains a constant speed up hill and down. Tap the brakes and it shut off instantly. That said, I personally don't use it enough to ever justify the expense of adding it to a bike that doesn't have it. In fact, when I bought my EG new I negotiated the cost of the cruise out of the sale price since I refused to pay for something I didn't want. But that's me - if you think it will benefit you, great!
On long rides on the SB, I'll occasionally engage the thumbwheel to rest my arm, since I have tendonitis in both elbows but don't use that much either. Guess I just prefer having my hands on the grips.
installed kit #77197-07 .
Mounted module just above regulator.
Wiring is a bit tiresome.
Took a while to figure out that it wouldnt work with an led tailight, so installed small incand lite and it worked just fine.
I would love to have real cruise control. I have been told by 2 or 3 Dealers it wont work on Sportsters and Dyna's. your part number is for 07 FLHR models, so I don't know how you pulled this off, but I think it's cool.
I tell ya what... I wouldn’t own a bike without it. I use it all the time. As soon as I hit the freeway, 85mph, the cruise goes on. When my hands goes to sleep. Cruise comes on to shake the hands out. I love it and wouldn’t be without it. It is very safe. You pull the clutch and it goes off, tap the brakes it goes off, roll the throttle forward a shade and it goes off. I love it on my bike. 08 Ultra
