Default question for those with polished wheels

I clean, polish and shine my bike at least one or twice a week, and I polish my aluminum wheels with Mothers Aluminum wheel polish and they always shine up to a mirror finish. Well I got caught in a pretty good rain storm a couple of days ago and finally got around to cleaning up my bike and since there was alot more grime on it than normal I sprayed the engine and wheels with some simple green and let it stand for a minute or two and then hosed it off. While drying my bike off I noticed that in one spot there was a dark whitish stain on my front wheel. I then tried using my mothers on it and it wasnt able to remove it, I then tried some never dull and it helped some but I could feel that it appeared that something had ate into the finish of the wheel because I could feel what felt like pitting there. I even used one of the mothers powerballs and nothing seemed to help very much. Any suggestions of what might have caused it and is there anyway to fix this? Honestly it looked like a dog had pizzed on the wheel sometime during the night, but I wouldnt think that could have done it. The only other thing I had put on there was the simple green but Ive used it before with no problems.

Hey I had the same thing occur with my bike. It ended up being just as you indicated (puppy dog wizz). I just spent some time with the Mothers and eventually it came out.

Well,...I just wasnt able to get it completely off so I decided to make a run to the local wally world and I found a jar of Mothers Billet Aluminum polish, and I decided to give it a try. It looks pretty similar to the Mothers Mag wheel polish that I had been using except that the jar was silver instead of white, and it was also appx $9.50 as opposed to the $3.50 on the other one, BUT I will have to admit it worked. I used it along with alot of elbow greese and got it off. I have narrowed down that my neighbors dog is the suspect. There is now a bounty on the neighbors dog.

notorious is right on w/the **** it’s a killer on alum. Unless you hit a puddle of something on the road, the only thing I know that works is :Semi-Chrome and hard work, I like to leave it on a few minutes kinda like soaking in, then start to rub, I like using blue paper shop towels (were would we be w/o them) and keep turning the paper over, some think all that black is good your “working it in” I don’t believe it I feel your grinding it in !

Make sure when you cover your ride that the front part of the cover goes all the way down over the bottom of the front tire.

One more thing never use Mothers or SC on wheels or anything else you have alum that is “clear coated” it will come off so easily then it’s work your butt taking care of it. Just wash w/mild soap, if you what a light coat of wax. You only want to shin the coating.

There is nothing wrong w/using Simple Green almost as good as Brake-Clean not on paint ! (in red can not green)

Good luck,

cj
