* dealers in this area rarely discount - usually MSRP
* Bought '06 lowrider in July, figuring there wouldn't be much change in '07, and negotiated a smallish discount
* Harley announced the '07 THE NIGHT after I picked up my bike. You can imagine how I felt about this.
* Explored trading in to '07, but although the dealer tried to do a good package, it was still too high ($3,500 cost when I had 300 miles on the '06 bike)
* Pushed the dealer to improve the value of my purchase, because I know they are giving discounts now to move the '06 models
* Ended up with a package that brought my discount from $x (original) to $y (they are giving me a bunch of stuff). [sorry - had to remove figures after posting]
Would you be happy with this package?
I am happy the dealer is doing anything, they certainly don't have a legal obligation to do so. I think it is a testament to their commitment to the customer that they are working with me to make me happy. But I"m just interested in other's opinions of the overall value?
Without knowing more of the details of the final deal or what specific model and equipment you traded for, it's hard to say. But on the surface, it sounds like you got a good deal.
More importantly, if you're happier with the '07, it doesn't matter. You obviously weren't robbed and it sounds like your dealer went out of their way to make you happy.
I didn't end up trading to the '07 because the $3,500 was pretty steep.
Instead, I convinced the dealer to throw in extra value to improve the deal I received on the '06.
So the $y [sorry - had to remove figures after posting] value is the discount I received on the '06 - the dealer improved the deal after the fact based on the situation ('07 announced the night that I picked up my bike).

So the $2,100 value is the discount I received on the '06 - the dealer improved the deal after the fact based on the situation ('07 announced the night that I picked up my bike).
Thanks...
Well, you got an even better deal then. I've never heard of a dealer going back after the deal was done and sweetening the pot. Sounds to me like you've got a first-class dealer.
Must be nice, they don't even sell used Harleys around here for MSRP.Dealers usually tack on a bunch of crap accessories you don't want then charge you for em +shipping,+setup+tax, licence"doc fees" and anything else they can think of.Bikes a couple years old still sell for more than MSRP.
