HID Headlight source?
if you don't buy a 500$ HID kit that is DOT approved your putting yourself in danger of having a burned out light bulb, and i'm telling my mommy on you cause it's illegal... PU$$IES!!!
joe i'll be calling you soon...
joe i'll be calling you soon...
in my harley, sport touring, truck (headlights and fogs), wifes bike, street fighter, snowmobiles (2), wifes car, and soon to be cafe... i run xentec HID set ups. they are great!
Your service manual describes how to properly adjust your Halogen lights. Not HID lights. They are 2 completely different light sources..
So do you approve street racing, wheelies and excessive (150+ mph) speed on public highways?
You can, of course, install blinding headlight on your bike. But don't come back and complain when a car driver plows into you or the bike just behind you.
i approve of all of those listed... and try and partake as much as possible. unless your bike is jacked up and the car in front of you is a mini truck or low rider you will not blind them... your headlight will be shining at their trunk! i know cause i have HID in everything i own with a motor... My truck is blinding cause it is lifted and puts the lights right in peoples back windows... but, i can see great at night!
ON my site there are many photos of HID. In all of the crap that the lighting companies put out, none have anything to do with the headlight lamp found on a HD (H-4). Before any of the above members wishes to say negative about H-4 Hi/Lo HID, please post your own photos and actual experience along with proof you really did it for all here to read it. Many talk and have no idea, experience, and know what they are talking about.
I have several years actual experience in HID and I can personally tell you that, just as Member JimmysFXDC stated, of you do not aim them than you will have a problem, the very same problem you will have running a Halogen bulb. Shine any light into oncoming traffic, you are in the wrong. Many here talk with no real experience and refer to that they read someone else's BS. It must be because it is on the internet, it must be true.
To make a legal HID kit, the manufacturer of HID must present a total complete kit and than spend thousands of dollars to fund the testing. If just one part is not used, even if the manufactured replacement part performs exactly as the original, than it is illegal. For instance brand X lamp is used for the testing such as JC Whitney's kit, change to the identical or better quality lamp such as an Adjure, you are illegal.
With the several years I have used mine, I have never had an oncoming vehicle ever flash me, I have never been stopped by the HID police, but I have always enjoyed the much improved night time extended visibility (light is a different spectrum) and safety a HID provides.

Do you adjust your headlight every time you ride 2up or with a load? I highly doubt it. Because adding a passenger and a load will change the angle of your light thereforecould cause serious injury or death.
The process of adjusting a headlight on any vehicle IS THE SAME, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE LIGHT SOURCE IS!!!!
Per the 2007 Dyna service manual,
"7. Turn ignition switch ON. Set handlebar headlamp switch to HIGH beam position.
8. Check light beam for alignment."
If you do the adjustment in HIGH, you should be fine. If oncoming drivers keep flashing their highbeams at you, guess what, READJUST YOUR BEAM LOWER!!!!!! It ain't rocket science, it's a cone of light.
K.I.S.S.(Keep It Simple Stupid)
Now I'm done.
Like I said pu$$ies, I approve of all those things also. although my ape hangers & really illegal exhaust are distracting me from seeing my head light... although if I lived in cali my handle bars would'nt be illegal... momma's boy...
just do a retro fit of a HID projector into your headlight. I'm about to start mine. check out hidplanet for there projects and you will see its so easy. then you will get the real deal with the cut off line you should have when running hid's.
