We have covered this here before, that there are two Harley guards available. On my FXDXT mine uses the forward mounting points to attach, but there is another that clamps around the downtubes, presumably to clear forward controls if fitted.

Any chance of part numbers for the one with clamps to the downtubes?

Seems there are actually three versions! Hopefully the link tells you which version is best for your bike.
