It mounts to the bars of my '07 Wide glide. No movement at all. Hasn't changed the handling or front end feel like the HD quick detach did. Cant even tell it is there, except for seeing the bugs go up over my head. Thats kinda cool the first time you see it.
If you are looking for something low profile like the windvest, check out the Memphis Shades Del Rey. It is attached with a key lock quick release system that mounts right to your forks. See mine in the sig pic.
Man, I had a MS windvest on my old Kawasaki and hated it. Hated how cheap it looked with the handlebar attachments. Never thought it did much good, vibrated a lot.....but I really like how my current shield attaches. Here's a pic of the pieces to attach to the forks...no drilling....
and you hardly notice it when the shield is off.....
