Ok I was on a trip to ohio a few weeks ago and we ended riding in rain almost all the way both ways. on the way back my rear tail light went out so we pulled over and took it apart and the rear circuit board for the light was all wet and the tail light lens was full of water. I cleaned it out and dried it off and then continued on my trip. About 200 miles later at 1030 at night on the highway my headlights went out .. that sucked.. anyway got it to a gas station and called harley roadside and after 2 hrs they said sorry i cant get any one to tow you .. so .. I pulled the seat and found the wirirng harnes and disconnected the rear lights completely. put a new fuse in and the head lights worked fine so rode the last 200 miles home in the middle of the night in the rain with no rear lights at all. Took it to my dealer and they replaced the lens and circuit board. All has seemed fine since then ... So my question is Has anyone else had this problem with there fatbob..

How did it fill up with water? Isn't there a gasket that seals it? Is there a crack in the lens? Was it not seated properly to create a good seal?

One of my indicators get water in when I wash it. With what I hear about speedo's misting up when wet, I think the best thing to do is to avoid getting Harley's wet. my ancient Honda sat in the back garden in all weathers and never had any issues (apart from rusting....)
Yea, that happened to mine more than once... had the circuit board replaced under warranty.
The water comes in through the holes in the tail lamp/license plate bracket (that black plastic piece) where the wires come through to plug into the circuit board.
I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the tail light lense and used some of this to seal the holes in the bracket: http://www.bramec.com/categories/detail.asp?cat=3068
Why not just use a dab of silicone sealant. I'm sure that's a lot cheaper than some other products.
and I had to LMAO when I read "...best thing to do is not get harleys wet." So, I have to ask. Do you have a 100% accurate, foolproof method for predicting weather patterns? C'mon. I'm not saying the design of your taillight is perfect but to make such a ludicrous statement like that is laughable.
Last month I also was riding in and through Ohio in the rain, and also PA, AK, TN, KY, VA, rain rain rain. Lost my tail light from the rear brake pedal, that switch went out.
I just a few days ago had my rear brake light lens off (to add a chrome cowl) and it seemed it had been bone dry in there, luckily.
It's a ridiculous design on the stock tail light. There's an opening in the back that lets all the water in. I sealed mine up with silicone, but eventually switched to a different tail light all together.
