I've been trying to find a fold-up for the past couple of days... I don't like a luggage rack, but when I'm carrying a back, I'd like to get it off the pax seat. It's nice and unobtrusive though I'd like some extra support for it too. I'd be a little concerned about it holding the weight of my laptop bag, but the idea is first rate, right on target, and looks great!
very cool but no gussets? will that support much weight? you should see about adding some cross suports that can lock in to support it, remember that when you have weight on there it will be bouncing around and create more force, it if falls though it will mess the hell out of your paint on the fender
Got to agree - it does look neat but not very strong IMO. As Joe says, it could do with some fillets (gussets) in there to beef it up a bit. With the weight of luggage bouncing on there it looks as if it may eventually crack. You should keep an eye on it.
gets me motivated to have a rack done up for my haulin *** backrest. I have a Harley rack, just gotta take to my favorite custom shop here locally to weld up a mount system for it.
Funny you should point that out! I just ordered that and a low sissy bar to replace my medium low. Like you inferred, not cheap, but I tend to buy the best I can reasonably afford so that I never have to buy that item again. That philosophy has served me very well over the years. It only hurts at the initial purchase, but it's nice knowing I shouldn't be looking to replace it anytime soon.
I'll update when I get everything in and see if that philosophy should be valid this time too. It would have been a much cheaper implementation if I already had the low sissy bar instead of the medium low.
