A question on removing the baffles from the pipes, Do you remove both? If removed can you put them back in? And how much louder is it with out the baffles?
Yeah you can put em back in. If you got stock pipes I'd recommend finding a pair of slip on mufflers for cheap. The sound is better, the performance is better, and you don't have to mess with anything besides a few nuts and bolts.
I have screaming eagle slip on's on my bike and I got the baffles out of them. It's simple and you can put them back in. Plus the sound is tons better also. You will not want them back in haha.
I didn't have any trouble taking out my baffles. I have the v & h double barrel Q series and they were too quiet so I change to the big shots without the packing and they sound perfect. They came right out.

I think slip ons sound/work better having done it both ways myself. Do what works for you.
If your bike is an 08 model or later, you cannot drill them out. I found out the hard way. The dealer told me that they are tripled welded and can't be removed. We tried anyway, in a machine shop, & completely ruined one. Now, I have Vance & Hines. The dealer also told me that if you could do it, it would make your bike run like pooh. FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH.
I have V&H Straightshots, and I actually just put quiet baffles back in mine. I bought the back with them removed, and it was just WAY to loud, even with ear plugs. After riding for an hour and a half, my head was pounding.
The quiet baffles still give it a nice roar, especially when you get on the throttle, and I don't have to worry about the neighbors wanting to burn my house down while I'm sleeping!
