My trashy side would have kept the flames, but my classy side would have done what you did. Very nice.

The two designs have almost a Jeckyll and Hyde relationship to each other.

the paint recommends acrylic primer if being used over bare metal, but in that case i wouldve used an etch primer, a high build acrylic and then flatted back before proceeding with what i did.

The tank i just painted over the original primer and metal flake coat cos it was sturdy and in good condition (the clear and blue just peeled right off with a spark plug spacing tool), the fenders i just scuffed up with 1500 wet n dry, shot around 7 coats, then flatted back and did 2 final coats.
