I've been thinking about getting a Forcewinder but wanted to know how they performed, what people like and dislike about them. Pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I had one on my Sporty but I wasn't all that impressed with it. It came with the bike (bought it used) but now that I own the SE heavy breather I have to say the HB is a much nicer looking set up. Performance? Well, it filtered the air and all that I suppose but it is just one of those things you have to have one of each to compare to and you can just see the difference I suppose. YMMV, but I'd look around.
i like the look of them....but more concerned with performance. it just seems that the filter is sooo small.
well, true. I would have to say there is less filter media surface area on the FW than on the HB, at least with the stock element. It was the whole mounting hardware and what-not that I wasn't impressed with. Kinda like Kuryakyn stuff. It looks good from a distance but up close it just isn't as great, ya know?
I know I have a pic somewhere of my Sporty with it on there. I'll try to find it.
Thanks! I guess i need to see one up close because i want to know what the mounting hardware looks like.
yeah, it has these nipples that get sandwiched in between the base plate and the breather intake so the oil vapor has a place to go. These are separated by copper washers and they don't seal all that well. Just nasty all together. There may be a way to route the oil vapor right back into the intake like the stock A/C does though so don't take my word straight to the bank or anything. I hated mine with the hoses to route and stuff. Look closely at my pic and you will see braided covered fuel hose (actually the front section has no braid) but then that leaves you with clamps to hide, hoses to zip tie somewhere, etc......ugh.
I was researching FW'er intake for my former sporty, but didn't like their customer service & found posts on other forums indicating problems w/install. Instructions were vague & had gap between intake port - breather tube (even w/gasket). IMO - go w/HD's SE breather - same look & performs well...
