Im sorry to say that most of us young guys dont like chrome. If the MoCo wants to make money they need to appeal to us. Thats why you have the street bobs, crossbones, and the iron and the nightster. The "new" WG is selling like hotcakes, much unlike the "old" WG.
I love my '10 W.G., but i also loved the older W.G.s. And I prefer chrome over blacked out anyday. There is a place for black, and a place for chrome, the W.G. is the place for chrome. When they make a denim black version, maybe then will i change my tune......But i just dont think that would look right on a W.G. Its like black pipes on a vidid black bike, just doenst look right "TO ME" but thats me.......
you young guys usually can`t afford to buy the chrome so they now give you a black bike, i do like the idea of the wider tire on the new model, thats one thing that has bugged me even before the wide phase that has come and gone but the 180 really fits and looks great, i hate my 150 and wish i could go to the 180 but no dice i guess we all have to have trade offs on everymodel
They pretty much built this bike for me.....I never would have bought a WG if not for the '10. I have just never been a fan of the Apes & dovetail fender, among other things. I do like chrome, but on this bike, you get just enough and it looks good.
As far as the sissy bar, I kept mine on, but without the rear seat. When my girl goes with me I do put on the pillion and the pad made to fit over the sissy bar. She has no problem with it and says it's comfortable as can be!
less chrome = more riding and less polishing. By the way I love the old WG, but when I saw the new design I just had to get the '10. Plus I just like buying new ones and knowing the break-in was done right.

Sadly usually the black stuff cost more then chrome, you can get chrome stuff pretty cheap these days.
