Hey,
I am just getting back to riding my '09 FXD. i got injured at work and had to suspend my riding for a short time. However, in a streak of bad luck 2 weeks before my work injury I dumped my bike in the rain. I was coming up to a stoplight on a bridge and it had just started to mist. I was travelling at under 5mph but I just hit a slick spot and went down. My body took most of the impact and only some minor scratches to the bike. The usual bottom of the outer primer, the primer cover, the left turn signal. The bike was rideable. I knocked the controls out of alingment and it took me 3 hours to realign everything. I keep looking at everything and it appears ok but when I look at my handlebars I can't help but wonder if they are bent. It might be an optical illusion but it is driving me nuts. I have measured everything twice and it all appears to be aligned. How hard is it to actually bend the stock handlebars when you drop a bike?
Pretty easy to bend them with 600 LBS + coming down , you will know when riding the bike and it does not feel the same as it did before then they may be crooked and your optical illusion is real , they are cheap in price and pretty easy to change and best of all your mind will be at ease , i hate mind games !!

They bend real easy I droped mine in the driveway while sitting still and it bent the bars was hard to see it but i had some extra ones in the garage and once off and compared to the extra i could then see the slight bend in them. Like has been said before get some stock ones that are not all that much
OK, so I swallowed my pride and went to the dealer, explained what happened and inquired as to my options. The guy in parts was great, he gave me all my pricing and then starts asking me more about what happened. I tell him my story and how the bike landed on me like a big cushion. He then takes me to a bike on the floor and says that there are two bushings where the handlebars connect to the triple tree. He says that they have problems with new bikes off the floor and tells me to check that before buying new bars. I come home do what he says and bingo now they are straight again. Thanks dealership for not soaking me. HD usually means $100, not this time.
