I've been thinking of powdercoating my tins over the winter. Not quite sure which color, but I decided I want something that pops a bit more than my Brilliant Silver Denim does. Maybe black chrome or something like that. Part of the reason I want to do this, is because I also plan on converting my rear fender to a 2010-11 Wide Glide's, so I'd have to have that painted anyway. Has anyone done this before? How much can I expect to pay for the job?
P.S. Since I'll be repainting them anyway, I might sell my Silver Denim tins in an exchange to someone who wants to change theirs. I know Silver Denim isn't a terribly common color, and someone might want them.
Not sure if the tank can be p-coated.Powder coatting is baked on after it is applied. Not sure if the tank can be baked let us know what answers you get and how much you do pay it sounds like a good idea, interesting anyway.
My indy does often, and prefers to PC tins. I think the key is to find a good powder coater who can make it look good. Talk about a bulletproof finish!
JRK5892 does this stuff for a living and is a site sponsor. I would hit him up with questions. I have done a few parts in the past since I like powders durability. Not sure what places charge now, but JRK5892 certainly would know.
JRK5892 is the man for this stuff!! He has done a ton of work for me and it always turns out great!! He also has great price's!!!! I am going to have him do my tins this winter also. for now krylon!!!!!!
I like the color it is now - but I hear you on that rear fender, thats what pushed me away from choosing a fat bob ... good luck with the project though, I don't think you can go wrong whatever you decide (unless you decide to keep the stock fender!)
