Question How hot are parts

I wonder if anyone has any idea how hot some parts get.I'm painting some chrome parts on my Dyna and so far all the parts are ok eg. Battery cover, coil cover, starter cover, the textured paint I used on them is good up to 200 degrees. Now I want to paint the chrome lifter cover (cover). Will this paint handle the heat down there? I can and will switch to a heat paint but like the black textured paint I've already used and want every thing to match any thoughts? Thanks GMH blackpullet

I would say get an infared temp gun and run your bike and see.
I know the front head sees about 285 degress when warm, the rear about 300 degrees.
I'm guessing the those covers see upwards of 200 degrees.

how are you getting paint to stick to chrome?

Default paintting chrome

To paint chrome all you have to do is use 220 0r 320 grit sandpaper and scuff all of the part until the shine is like a stainless steel (look) or an alluminum (look)self etching primer has been recommended to me before using final paint process but I've excluded it with equal success. The fine textured (Rustolium)I've used covers easy and has held up very well multiple coats 3-4 curring after each coat.

I would think so might actually adhere better.

Default infrared temperature reader

Just for information, I bought a $10 infrared temperature gauge at Harbor Freight a few years back. It comes in handy for remotely checking temperature readings, not sure how high it goes, but they have other models that probably go as high as you need.
