Default SE 103 kit...

So, I've got a great deal for 103 kit 29893-07A, like 400 bucks NIB. Is it worth it??
255 cams, 3-7/8 cylinders and flat top pistons, clutch spring, gaskets and hardware.
I'm new to big twins and don't know **** about them. Should I just look for High compression pistons and a good cam?

Thanks

If you don't know 'jack' about big twins, how do you know you'd not be happy with the 255's? The price is good for that setup.

I get a kick out of the fact people don't like the 255 cam 107ft/lbs of tq at 2500rpm it pulls like a freight train in all gears it also reliable build over 20k on mine. It will drop off at about 4500 rpm but I don't ride in that range anyway the bike is a cruiser hit 6th gear on the black top and it will pass at will. I would go with it at that price. Heck you could always change the cam later or at build.

I have the same build on my bike now, I only have about 3000miles on it, but i am very happy with the package, it pulls very hard, even after 4500 rpm drop it still has more power than the stock set up. I love the 2nd gear and the front tire floats off the road at will. My only regret is that i did not do headwork with it, but that will be next years project. for the price i would go for it.

It's worth it. Usually the kit would go for around $800. The 255's are a decent cam, but if you like running the rpms out, there are better choices.

Thanks, guys... I think i'm sold... it's a hell of a deal anyways. With the 103 kit would anyone suggest another cam?

It's not that I don't know jack... it's just I've read a lot of mixed reviews.

What about instead of using those flat top pistons, getting a set of the 3-7/8 high compression pistons for stock heads?? any ideas if this will work?

Dude just keep the motor stock ,, where are you going so fast and why ? your not on a race track , been there and done that and wasted alot of money , just ride your machine and enjoy the sights , sounds , and smells !

I would say that if that is the kit and you don't have the ability to change out parts then just go with the kit, it will be better then stock. I know that some people will say why do you want to go that fast, but it isn't about going fast. I don't race my bike, but love the torque that my bike has and there have been times when I have needed to get out of the way where that extra power and torque have saved my bacon. Yes, I have raced my bike and the power band 4K rpms is great (I have an Andrews cam). Understand that as you change components of your kit the price starts to go up pretty quickly though.
