I'm sure this question has been ask before but....
I have a 05 Super Glide Custom. When I hit the start button all I get is a slight click out of the starter. I tested the battery it was 12.5 volts. I proceeded to remove the starter by disconnecting the wiring and removing the 2 allen bolt mounting it to the housing when I tried to remove it the starter wiggled away freely except the plunger was stuck against the fly wheel and would not easily retract. Is there something else that needs disconnected or is this potentially my problem?
You have to pull the outer primary, the jackshaft bolt, lockplate and thrust washer. The last thing you do is pull the two mounting bolts that you've already done.
Gotta say it - get a service manual for your bike. Best $60 (if you pay full price) you'll ever spend if you plan to do your own work.
But before doing any of that I'd look closer at the battery, connections, relay, and solenoid in that order. Have the battery load tested - voltage alone won't tell you if its good or not.
I put the starter back in working order and took your advise about going threw the connections and relay it turned out to be the relay thanks for the advise.
