I just installed a set of J&M self amplified speakers on my Dyna.
When I turn the ignition key on, there is a loud humm on the right speaker. The bike is not even on, just the ignition key is. I did an experiment and disconected the wires from the ignition power and hooked them directly to the battery. The system worked fine when I did that, there was no humm. Until I turned the key back on, the humm came back even with the speakers hooked directly to the battery.
Anyone else have this problem or any idea what can cause it ? Or possibly how to fix it. The only diff it seems is poweris on tothe lights when the key is on.
Thanks
Check your grounds. Not just the amplifier, but the battery connections and frame ground. Worst case scenario would be to go to Radio Shack and pick up a line filter and install it on the power feed to the amp.
Oh, and move the feed from the headlights to the accessory side of the ignition
JMJOHN
I am using an Ipod Nano, but the hum comes from the right speaker before I even plug the IPOD in and remains after the music is on.
I wired the speakers directly into the igniton line under the seat , via an plug and play adapter . Maybe I should try taking the return directly to a chasis ground. When I experimented and wired it directy to the battery so I could try the speakers without the ignition on there was no hum.
Thanks
