Default cracked engine casing :(

My '08 Street Bob has been leaking oil for the last little while. My spouse (short stop) and I both thought it was our car, but not so.

I took it in to my nearby dealership yesterday, and it turns out, the engine casing has a crack in it I'll have to 're-instate' my warranty, as I didn't go through with "Canadian-ize"-ing my bike (new speedo) when I brought it over from the US. But for the price of a new speedo, I'm getting a new motor.

I'm really bummed about it, as the bike is only two years old. It's practically new. Is this common?

Is it also common with a crack in the casing to have screwy tranny issues? On the ride home yesterday, I geared down into second, and my poor Bob thought it was in sixth and displayed this on the speedo. WTF?

That doesn't sound so much like a tranny issue as it does electrical.

Is this issue with the engine casing common?

Is my bike safe to ride? It's not leaking like crazy, but it does concern me.

I'm sure if you keep riding it, there will be a catastrophic failure. It's not going to heal itself.
