Selling my Sporty. Hate to but I want a little more comfort and handling. I put Progressive suspension front and rear on the Sporty, triple discs, etc., but I am still pushing to the limit. Found a 2001 T-Sport, rode it and fell madly in love. Feels like you are on rails thru the curves. It's not a quarterhorse like the Sportster, more like a Kentucky Derby horse. Stock except for Andrews 37 cams. Power all the way to redline in every gear. The ride is so smooth, yet when you stick it in a curve, you feel like you are on a sportbike. At 62 years old, with 47 years of riding behind me, I may never want another bike.

Welcome to the Dyna house! I have been around a while, too. Got my street license in 1968 (used my Dad's BMW R65/2 for the test), rode some dirt bikes before that. I've had a Norton Commando 750, a BMW R75/5, several Sportsters, and several Dynas. From a pure performance standpoint, the '99 XL1200S with stage 1 mods was the best - light to light and in the twisties. But the Dyna, I'm now on an '07 FXD, is way kinder on my back and butt. Much as I love Sportsters, I can't go back.
Sure happy with my T-Sport; came from a Sportster as well (after spending a lot of $$$). SINCE getting my FXDXT have crashed a CBR1000, rented a BMW for a week and a Road King for a day (that was enough of that...) and I'm still keeping my T...next trip starts in about 11 days...planning on 3000+ miles; a few may be freeway but mostly winding roads on the east coast.
I had a black 2001. Loved the bike but kept fretting over laying out the cash it would take to get the mods I wanted on the bike, which would make me end up with way more in the bike than it was worth. Ran an ad and sold it on eBay for way more than I expected. A couple of days later I realized I'd made a huge mistake. I contacted the buyer and told him I didn't want to welch on the deal but would offer him $500 to let me out of it. He declined, offering that he had promised the bike to his son and they were leaving soon for Sturgis. He had heard that they were the best handling Harley ever made and that's the bike he wanted his son on. I reluctantly parted with the bike.
2 years later I realized I had to have one again. I contacted the buyer again and they were not interested in selling it back to me. Several weeks later I found one identical on eBay from up in New York, and I won the auction. This bike is a complete peach and a keeper for life. Now I was more than happy to put the money into the mods to make this bike my vision of what I wanted.
She is going into the dealer as soon as UPS delivers, for a new S&S 510G geared cam and thunderheader, which will pretty much be the last phase of mods.
Man I love this bike. Would be really hard to make one because of the following:
(1) 3 way adjustable suspension, featuring stock cartridge style forks (yep just like a sport bike, which is why the handling is described above as riding on rails through curves). Handles like a sport bike but cruises like a touring bike.
(2) Dual front brakes
(3) The best soft bags ever made, completely waterproof with big easy access zipper pockets, and 5 second quick release (even with a handle if you want to carry them up to your room. The styling of the bags is not very Harley-like, but they are unique and do have a way of really growing on you.
(4) The fairing is larger than the aftermarket models, even the Harley one. Which provides more protection from windblast, but does mean not quite as good looking. But one good thing is the windshield attachment is adjustable, so you can move it up (out) or down (in) depending on conditions.
(5) Most comfortable stock seat ever made. I've heard it described as a sundowner but I do not think it is exactly that. It's pretty thick and I traded it out for looks, but that seat is going back on for any longer trip on the bike.
I said I wasn't going to talk up the T-Sport because I want to be able to buy another one cheap one day, but I guess I blew it. Hard to keep quiet about it when you're in love.

Always envy when riding with him in the twisties.
Not as pretty as my WG parked, and I like the straight hiway riding on mine,
but someday.....
still think HD should combine the 11 Softail Convertible parts with the 10 FXD, throw in some suspension tricks, and just see the response.
fell onto my 02 fxdx ....friend popped off that he was thinking of selling it in (08) 8000.00 mine all mine ..imo these were the best made 3 disc,adj susp..mine just the sport but i know how ya feel .h-d needs to update and re-introduce this model again

The FXDX suspension when adjusted for comfort actually rides better than my road glide, which sort of makes me wonder why my $20,000 touring bike did not have adjustable cartridge forks like a FXDX.
