- the TMAX reads head temps ... head temp will run a little hotter than the oil temp ... which is why oil cools the motor ....
- check your IAC Curves (Idle Speed vs. Engine Temp) ... my idle starts to go up as the head temp goes above ~310 ... (not to 2,000 RPM, but a few hundred RPM) ...
- also, the ECM Module Configuration (Basic Settings) allows you to set where you want the high temp warning to start ... you might check to see what yours is set at ... might be a rather low setting which was giving you a 'false' alarm that the motor was in a worse state than it really was ... (or not) ....
Hope the heat didn't do any damage ... you did the right thing shutting down and cooling off ... wouldn't think 90 degrees ambient temperature would be that 'arduous' of running conditions ... for many riders (particularly, AZ, TX, FL, SoCAL, etc) that's probably considered mild ....
