WTF Causes this??
I know this should be in the other section, but i'm postin here cause I have a dyna
So twice now my dad's 07 roadglide has decided to barf oil out while he's riding, both times it drips pretty steadily out of the AIR CLEANER!! WTF?? Last time it happened we were luckily about 5 minutes from a shop to get our tires changed so they changed the oil and filter and it was fine. This was only a few weeks ago.
Well he's already put 3k miles so yesterday he changes it and uses that royal purple stuff cause supposedly it runs "cooler" cause his bike was overheating and bogging down the other day. So low and behold we are going down the interstate at maybe around 80 and my g.f taps my shoulder and white smoke is just billowing out of his pipes. I mean it looked like a moving burnout it was that thick lol. It would go in bursts, pour out for a few seconds and stop, pour out and stop.
Well finally it just quit altogether and we pulled over and there it is pouring oil out from the air cleaner again...
Luckily we made it home safe, took the long route and went slower. I tried to get the air cleaner off but whoever put it on last drove one of the starbit bolts WAY down and we can't get it to turn.
So anyways what causes this?
P.s. Sorry for the LONG post, also I've been tellin him it's time to trade that sucker in for the beautiful flat black 2010 road glides, and my mom even said he needs a new one haha.

Causes are usually too much oil in the engine or blockage in the vent system. If you overfill a TC engine it will give it back to you. SOme engines will puke a small amount of oil on long (3-4hour+) freeway rides but not like you are describing. I think his engine takes 3.5 quarts on a wet oil change. (verify the amount) Well some guys just dump in 4 quarts and call it good. On some bikes it never pukes on some you get back the 16 ounces when you hit the highway. If he didn't overfill it then check for blockage in the entire vent system or possibly a malfunctioning or clogged oil filter.

16 ounces of oil makes a real mess. Doesn't look like much in the bottle but will leave a giant spot on the floor if you spill that much.
Nothing smells worse than Royal purple..I was following a buddy once and his bike had the same trouble..I will never forget that smell.Ranks right up there with burnt rear end fluid.
There was a problem in the FLs 88TC with the oil return holes in the rocker arm stand cavity being too small. I would think that would have been fixed on the 96" -- ??
Another problem could be mis-alignment of the oil pump or a too restrictive oil filter.
Right now, my (tentative) vote would go to the oil filter since that's the most recent change leading to a recent problem. I'd look into what is the OEM filter requirement for that particular model and start there.
But these problems were supposed to have been addressed with the 96" motor. Maybe not all were.
Good luck.
