Over the past few weeks I've experienced 3 occurences of total electrical power loss.
The first time I went over a very small bump in the road at 10mph and everything died. The last time was yesterday when I stopped for petrol. Went to start it again and got some ticking from the starter solenoid and then everything switched off. No lights lit on main panel. Switched off the main switch and back on again, a few seconds later, thepanel lights flickered into action and I was able to start the bike again.
Took the bike into my local dealer (it's only 4 months old), they couldn't find anything wrong. All battery terminals were connected ok. The only proof of the issue was that the time display was flashing.
It's a very intermittant fault. Most days, the bike is fine. Any ideas?
I had it happen with mine also.............and occasionally it would flat spot on initial cranking of the motor before starting............
The only thing I did was, replace the positive lead bolt as it was not making proper contact with the battery post. I/you could see some traces of carbon arcing on the original bolt. No Problems since
My buddy's sportster would do that, I rode it and noticed the key switch was loose plus he had alot of weight on his key ring, tightened it up, dropped some key weight and no problems since.
Ok, turned out to be the battery earth connection. Was ever so slightly loose. Tightened up and no problem since. Thanks everyone.
Thanks for following up with the solution Doodles, far too often we forget to do that. Feels good to find and fix a problem that the dealer couldn't, huh!
