I don't follow?
Choice #2 if you want to pay $40+ more for 5mm of tread you won't even come close to using. I am not even going back to the ND because even the width of the ND is a waste and I ride pretty hard. I think I can get the same performance and better wear with a Avon Storm 2 Ultra 1960/70-17. If I don't I will probably go back to the ND because it does handle exceptionally well.

Avon storm II in size 170/60x17 for the rear is a dual compound tire, harder in the cntr where you need it and softer compound on the outside edges,, throw in a 110/90x19 Avon Venom up front and you got a good combination.
Both these sizes of the Avon tires are suitable for stock rim sizes and better than standard Dunlops in my experiance.
Most of the other tire manufacturers state sizes that actually don't measure up in reality..they're 170's measure up no bigger in width than the stock 160.

Most other 180's including the Metzler's will require a 5.5" width rim. If you want a Metzler, which I recommend, you can run the stock 160 or a 170 width with your stock wheel. Or you can do what I did and lace an 18x5.5 rim to your stock hub and run a Metzler 180 55 18.

So do you have any details on this?? i.e. brand and part number for rim and what size spokes?? I would love to do this my next tire change!! Thanks!!

I went with the Metzler 170. The Pirelli is listed as a 180, but the tread wraps around the side of the tire more which doesn't give it any real additional width over a 170.

My ND measured 176mm wide and the tire diameter is only 5mm (< 1/4") larger in diameter to the OE K591. The ME 880 170 spec is 169mm wide and is smaller in diameter by 21mm(> 5/8").

I realize this is an older thread, but contains great info. I'm curious as to the Pirelli ND 110/90/19 will mount up on a stock cast wheel on my Low Rider without clearance issues with the fender and mounts. Time for me to start doing homework for my 3rd set of tires. I now run the GT502 front and rear, while the front is starting to to have cupping issues, it isn't creating any drive ability issues like the **** stock 401's did. The front of the 401 had a slight cupping which resulted in front end shake at speeds of 40mph and above with hands off the bars..

.

Now I'm considering the 180 ND rear with the 110 Venom front.
