Default help w identifying a wide glide front end

I'm going to check out a Wide Glide front end tonight that I will be putting on my 05 Low Rider... what should I look for so I can identify what year they are from?

they were 41mm before they went to 49mm... 39mm is what is in my narrow glide front end
I checked them out tonight. They need a little love but they are only asking $100. They are lowered a ton... I almost wonder if they have been lowered too much or if they even have the original tubes in them. Can anyone tell me a length that I could measure on them to see what is up with them?

thanks

andrew

My understanding is the FXDWG front end's fork tubes came 2" over the stock length of the other Dyna models of the same respective years ....

One question that occurs to me might be: whether the lowering was just through the use of shorter tubes or if the springs/spacers/top out springs were replaced to lower the fork length .... That is, if they were actually lowered, how was it done ...?

Good luck ... post pics ....

Problem is, the guy doesn't really know how it was done... looks too low to just be a lowering kit since that only gets you 2-2.5 inches from what I've seen. I am wondering if it might even be a Fatboy or Heritage front end without the nacelle and fork bells since the bump stops are shaved off. The other interesting thing is there are brake mounting tabs on both sides and I don't think I've ever seen a wideglide with duel front brakes.

Could be he used the fork tubes and lower sliders from a touring model with dual discs ....

Those tubes would be a little shorter ....

Could be a mix and match of Softail triple trees or Wide Glide ... with fork tubes from another bike ....

$100 isn't a lot, but this sounds like a pass'er by situation.

If it's a dual disc setup, it's definitely not a stock WG front end. I've toyed w/ the idea of putting a dual disc setup on my WG, but haven't found the most economical way to do it yet. I don't think I can just get a matching chrome right-side lower, the caliper, and a dual disc 21" wheel. The other thing about the WG trees, is that I think they have 3* of rake. Not sure how you would confirm this w/ them off the bike. I'm guessing the fork tube holes won't exactly line up if you stack one tree on top of the other, but I'm not sure.
